Well, I've been using premergence chemicals since Karmex (remember it??) in the late 50's. Not aware that pre-emerge chemicals work by "sterlizing" the seed, although there may be some that work in that fashion, I certainly haven't used them all; also most of these chemicals are geared to a specific target weed(s) or grass(es). If they "sterilized" all seed they came in contact with, how would the planted crop germinate and 'come up'??? Guess I'm just in a "nit-picking" kind of mood....no offense intended. Local extension service or chemical dealer can advise which chemicals can be used for a particular vegetable, if you don't care to read the label.
