Real important to understand mode of action of your herbicides and drift/migration. Can get in a mess if you aen't careful. I use herbicides extensively in vegetables but raise them as monocultures (at least a 1/2 acre of 1 type). Also really like plastic mulch. Lay down a sheet of plastic, punch holes and put in your transplants (I transplant everything, sweet corn, squash, plus the traditionals). Biological mulches can work just as well but plastic is cheap and clean. Plastic cuts down on a lot of disease problems and makes washing a snap.
