If one is looking for a loader tractor, it probably is best to look for a tractor that has a hyd pump that can handle that task in the first place. Most hyd pto pump systems, with pump, tank, controls & hoses will cost more than the $900 you mention to repair your relative's pump. If one wants to use the pto on the tractor for other tasks, that pump is way more than a few second's of hassle. Without a stub shaft, you must remove it & dangle it somewhere - and can't use the loader at this time. With the stub shaft, it costs more; most implements don't align properly & need modification or a different hitch on the tractor; adding that unsupported length to the pto shaft & running another pto load adds a lot of stress to the tractor pto shaft causing it to wear out quicker; and you can still only run the loader when you are also running the other pto load on the back of the tractor.... Now, having sounded so negative about it, the pto pump is a good solution for many cases, if your tractor has live pto such as Oliver; you don't plan on using the pto for other things. Just don't expect it to be perfect - there are always trade-offs. --->Paul
