Farmers (in my neck of the woods)have always worked other's land, instead of; or in addition to their own. Several options, which will be different in different locales. 1. Crop shares...you furnish all labor and machinery; landowner receives share of crop for rent; traditionally either 1/4 or 1/3. Land owner may or may not help pay for seed, fertlizer, etc. 2. Cash rent....you pay land owner a 'fixed' rate per acre or per farm. All of crop is yours. 3. Custom farming....land owner retains all production; pays you to prepare soil, plant and harvest; payment by hour, acre, or "job". Arrangement will be different in different parts of country; these are just what I'm familiar with.
