Part Time Contract Farming - any suggestions?

Tried to get a co-op going in my "neighborhood" as a means to fund my tractor fund. I furnish equipment and labor, nieghbors furnish fuel, seed and assisted with the harvest. Needless to say now that planting time is here no one wants to participate. Just as well, last yr. had lots of fresh veggies available for cost of picking and no one showed up (guess I was supposed to bring it to their door). Enough of my soapbox.
Question is this - some of the older (65+) folks have heard of my past efforts. Late this winter many are requesting that I come in and farm their places (size ranges from 2 - 76 acres). I have had offers to pay for use my equipment, fuel and labor or use their equipment and split profits (food, barter or $$). Anyone ever done this? Anyone successful at doing this? What is the potential upside and potential downside? I really like the idea of doing this as it will give me more field time, my boys are now tractor driving age and can assist. Plus me and the boys gain the value of the old timers knowledge, friendship and leads on potential old iron sales.
Still chuggin' in the weeds. . .
