Half of the point of synthetic oil is that it doesn't break down like conventional oil and lose its viscosity. It carries the particulate around better and then if you use a better filter, and particularly if you use a double filter, you get that particulate out of the oil. The thing Lew didn't mention is getting the oil tested, which I'm sure he does on a semi regular basis to make sure it retains its good qualities.
