Older Tractors vs newer Offerings

It seems to me with my limited knowledge, the older around 30hp to 50hp 1950s & 60s tractors are about as rugged as one could hope for at a good price. Are the newer tractors just as tough? Nothing like a 40+ year 'track record' proving themselves.
