I agree the in block heaters are best by far. Also cheaper. I just use an el cheapo timer to turn the heater on an hour or 2 before I plan to use the equipment, unless it is bitter cold, then I leave it on all night. If you use a heater, still allow a bit of warmup time as the oil is still fairly cold.
