Hand cranking idea?

I am not a tractor restorer myself, but got hooked at all the ingenuity of those brave folks restoring old iron. I've read the article about hand-crank starting various brands of machinery and wondered if the hand held portion of the crank could be modified. If I can describe this idea properly, it would have a straight shaft with the crankshaft engagement on one end, and a solid disc (no spokes) on the other.This way the cranker couldn't get caught in the flailing crank handle if the crank failed to disengage the crankshaft. Just thinking aloud. Maybe the compression is just too much for a hand grip on the edge of a wheel. Any comnments on this?
