I had this shudder problem with my 1993 Grand Marquis Mercury whenever it was shifting into overdrive. The transmission shop (and I checked with more than 1 or 2 before doing this) had an additive that stops the shuddering. I don't remember the name of it now, but probably most of them have it. They told me this was a common problem with Fords with overdrive trans.
