Farmall tractors made in the 30's, 40's, and 50's had serial numbers stamped in serial number plate, frame, and also in the side of block. The serial numbers stamped in these 3 places should match and you can cross that number over to a serial number chart and determine what year your tractor is. This is the best way to determine what year it is. If the numbers don't match in the 3 places then chances are that the tractor has been peiced together over the years (2 or 3 tractors put together as 1). Now that that is cleared up, the numbers you are talking about are the numbers that are casted into major parts (such as the ones you mentioned). Farmall casted these parts with a number that could identify when the parts were indeed made. So like 5 13 E is actually month, day, and year with the year being indicated with a letter. That is the explaination of the numbers you are talking about, however these numbers might not all match up on the tractor simply because the transmission might of been made one day and the tractor assembled 2 weeks later. I am not sure what letters represent which years. I think the years are in alphabetical order (not sure when it started) but not all letters were used.
