Lots of folks here are probably tired of hearing me say this, "wouldn't go back to gas if you gave me the tractor and the gas to run it." Even if you have to do a lot of work the diesel overhaul will run at most an extra $600, a full pump rebuild will run just under a thousand. Fuel savings alone will pay for this, not counting the extra time between rebuilds and the down time with a gas. Keys are: 1. buy absolutely clean fuel and keep it absolutely clean. 2. Diesels don't like to idle, that's what is meant by not running them hard. Most of my first rebuilds were on diesels that people used to set tobacco, hours and days of idling, then they ran the p=== out of them baling hay. Keep rpms at 1000-1200 and you are ok. 3. Keep the oil changed, use a good oil. In 22 years (wow, has it been that long) I've never rebuilt one of my own (diesel)engines after I did it once (typically I get used ones that need an oh when I buy them except the one a guy borrowed and ran out of oil).

To the newcomer that wants to get out and use the machine for field work, you may have already hit a major roadblock. That is the dreaded "proprietary hitch". With the exception of the
