I'm probably the worlds worst, in the worlds easiest state (regarding farm vehicles) for running the margins (no brakes, 1 tailight, over weight, no tie downs, the works). What I do is call DOT or DMV or whatever they are called where I am going, ask them, get the date, time, and name of who you talk to.

Here, the 18,000 tag on a dually would be a killer. That means stop at scales, keep a log book, everything.
