Don't be so quick to say you are wrong. I read the post several times and still don't get it. I have never heard of the unit ft/lb. Torque is expressed in units of lbf-ft (some would say ft-lb) but not ft/lb. Torque is the result of a force acting through a moment arm distance. It is, in fact, calculated by multiplying the applied force by the distance, as you first indicated. For the example mentioned, a pull of 10 lb at a distance of 2 ft would yield 20 lbf-ft of torque on the steering shaft. That presumes, of course, that the pull is perpendicular to the bar that the scale is attached to, otherwise the angle of pull would have to be factored in. Rod
