I read several but not all posts. I live in a pretty rural area and have been to all price range of weddings. In my area, $19,000 would be real extreme, however a co-worker of mine got married awhile back in a big city and I couldn't believe what they had to spend for cattered meal, hall rental, overnight lodging, and so forth. I have seen thousands of ways to cut expenses on weddings and been to some where they cut all corners and a good time was still had by all. Any time you are going to rent clothes, halls, cars, and hire everything done you are probably going to end up paying the big bucks. Check into having cousin Ed be the D.J. instead of having a band. Rent a hall from someplace where you have a connection with (you might get a better deal if you are a VFW member if you are going to rent the VFW hall). If having a open bar, it is alot cheaper if you are someplace that allows you to furnish all the supplies. Rather than all the men renting tuxedo's, have them all where there own black suit, white shirt and gray tie or whatever. They can all still be somewhat matching in there own clothes and if they have to buy a shirt or tie or whatever atleast they will have some clothes to take home rather than just a tuxedo bill to pay. Have Aunt Marjerie make the cake rather than pay someone else big bucks to make a fancy one that you are just going to cut up anyways. Stuff like this can save you serious money on a wedding.
