It takes longer to charge a battery with a generator than it does with a alternator. You can check your generator to see how many amps it is charging. It could be the regulator. It could be the cable and wire ends. I have seen bad connections at the crimped ends. First I would make sure it wasn't the battery by taking it to a service center and getting it checked if you don't have the equipment to check it with.
