bill, You might want to back in to the decision on a tractor by visiting the site listed below to see what belly mowers bolt up to old tractors. They have bunches of tractors that will work with belly mowers listed. Imagine they could make some good suggestions, too. The pull behind vacs generally have their own little engines - and surely aren't cheap. I'd guess if you're buying a new belly mower and trac vac and an old tractor you're going to get fairly close to the JD lawn tractor price. Of course, the lawn tractor won't be a 6' cut, and won't have the versitility -- and surely not the character -- of an old tractor. So I don't think newer is necessarily better. Steve
