That's my dad "secret receipe" (a nasty disgusting concoction but works). It leaves a dusty film on the wood so it's not the best for fences, esp with Charolais cattle. He uses 50 gallons of used engine oil, 5# lamp black, and 5 gallons of driveway emulsion sealer. Put it on with a $2.00 mop from the $ Store. Seems to work miracles. I'm a little "looser" with the $, I guess. Been buying 55 gallon barrels of economy acrylic "fence and barn" for $125.00 per barrel and use it on my place. It looks better and sprays, but seems like it doen't work as well for preserving. Side Note: Always facinates me how people in different parts of the country (world I guess) think barns have to be _____ color. Here it's solid black with a bright roof. Got friends from MN that tell me our barns look in "mourning", should be red. That's not to say we don't have red or white barns in the neighborhood, just more black than anything else.
