Compressed Natural Gas is cheaper per mile than even diesel and much less expensive to purchase outright. $10,000 extra for a Duramax and Allison transmission here. Plus the gov't waves most of taxes and applies grants to "clean" vehicles.
Many fleets with natural gas connections are coverting to bi-fuel gasoline/cng or using cng in diesels using a little diesel for pilot ignition.
Around here 87 octane is 79 cents per liter and cng is 51 cents liter equivalent at comercial pumps. If filling off a home or business compressor the cost is 22 to 34 cents per liter equivalent depending on your gas contract. Electricity is 3 to 5 cents per liter plus cost of compressor. Covers all costs and pays back the price of the compressor in less than a year for most users. All gravey from there on in. About 150 miles on cng then it swaps over to gasoline if away from a fill station.
