I see those same numbers you said in a Massey manual here for the 6 cylinder Continentals. Maybe it isn't an error, could it be the distance from the casting surface to the bottom of the float? That might make sense. I was with a fellow yesterday who has a 540 Cockshutt ... one of the early ones with a 6V positive ground electric system. His generator fried and he's having an awful time finding something. I suggested a generator out of any old Chrysler product from the 40's and early 50's (although the cable connection on the end wouldn't hook up). It's a working tractor so he might try an alternator conversion.
