This is how I have had this question answered by people I put faith in. The lead in gas to lubricate valves was only needed for the hi comp engines of the late 50's and 60's. Lead was added to lubricate the valves. Your cub engine is nowhere near the compression that would need lead in the fuel of this era. The fuel that was available when this tractor was new didn't have near the quality of what we have today. I run a WD45 with a 6' belly mower on gas without lead sub and haven't had any problems.

My opinion: run gas out of the barrell/pump and you should be alright.
