The africanized bee is very patient. If you jump in the lake to get away from them you are going to be there for hours, and you are going to get stung every time you come up for breath. Because you're probably going to get tired of being stung so often you'll try to stay down longer, and gasp for breath when you come up, ensuring you inhale a few bees and get stung in the throat. You will also be enjoying hypothermia after many hours in the pond as well. Jumping in a pond can work well enough when dealing with a few irate Italian honey bees, not not with a hive of pissed off africanized beeks.
