Don't worry, if you hook your tractor up wrong, it aint gonna blow up or anything. Start it up and if it shows discharge, rev it up and if it shows more discharge than you know that you have it wrong. If it has a magneto, it won't matter to your points anyway. I own a 49 John Deere A and I noticed my old battery was over-charging so I took off my generator and took it in to our electric shop and the voltage regulator said positive ground. This tractor was hooked up 12v, negative ground. The generator showed good and the electric said that at one time or another that it has been changed over. He told me that as long as you change the wires around on your guage and polarize your voltage regulator from positive to negative ground, that it will work just fine. You polarize your regulator by touching a piece of wire from the "GEN" or "ARM" terminal to the "BAT" terminal on your regulator for just a second. You should see a slight spark. What ever you do, be careful with the wire because if you touch the field terminal with the wire, you have cooked your regulator.
