Article Spotlight - Tire Fluid?

I read today's Article Spotlight on the home
page: Tire Fluids
by Curtis von Fange And while well written & informative, I do have
a minor quibble with it. Calcium Cloride was
chosen as a weight additive not because it is
cheap, but because it adds a great deal more
weight. As the salt disolves into the water, the
weight per lb increases dramatically. The salt
is doing 2 jobs - preventing freezing, AND
adding extra weight. As I have read many discussions on this
forum on the topic, it seems many people do
not understand this. I think an article written on
the topic should help to explain this, not ignore
it. Alcohol based anti-freezes are lighter than
water, not as good for adding weight. Salt based fluids are heavier than water, and
are better for adding weight to something. --->Paul
