Most questions here on ballast are in regard to using a loader. Yes, the weight is required. :) If it's not required, then don't add any kind of fliud.... Different tire sizes make a big difference in your equasion. Running a snow blower - that's different. Baling on hills with an attached hayrack. Mowing the road ditches. I think the weight is needed for those cases, and more is often better. You can use less Calcium Cloride/water mix than antifreeze if you don't want a full load, and the weight will be carried lower - a good thing for several of the above applications.
