I wouldn't use concrete blocks, either. Decent quality 3 or 5 ton jackstands aren't very expensive, and are well worth it in the long run. Like others have posted, after good jackstands, your next best bet is good hardwood blocking. Make sure you place the blocks in such a way so that the load is placed across the grain, and not with it. Although with a relatively light tractor like you're working on, it shouldn't be much of a problem.
