From 50 years ago mowing with a Case semi
mounted sickle mower: if you tilted the
teeth/bar downward, the guards would root up
cornstalks and plug. Our mower had a lever
that allowed the guards to to be pointed level
or slightly upward and it helped avoid plugging
with the exception of pocket gopher mounds.
Don't know if mowers of today have that
feature or not.
