I have an auger for my tractor but when we do lots of fencing in hard clay soil (and dry... there is drought in here in NC) we rent a bobcat with and auger. You can drill easily 200 posts in a day by more or less putting half the weight of the bobcat on the auger. Considered the driver, too, before this last round of fencing, and the manufacturer swears that it'll drive up to 8" posts with uncut bottoms into anything. Good luck.
