Have seen that most heavy duty engines used the head studs. Once heard they give more even torque, and possibly better holding ability than head bolts. Okay, but today the little aluminum engines all use head bolts, which thread into steel thread inserts. What once was common, gets superceded by technology advances, and that happens a lot. john in ne.
