Hi Ed, Most of the purists on the board don't like my advice so beware. My tractors are working tractors and I want them to start and run. My 50 8N leaked at the sediment bowl so I took it off and threw it away. I put an inline filter on it with hose clamps and if I ever need to stop the fuel flow, I put a small pair of vise-grips on the fuel line. If the carb leaks, the tractor is parked in an open barn with a dirt floor and I never keep over a couple of gals of gas in it. When it didn't start as quick as I like, I changed it to 12 volts and it has never failed to crank since, unless battery failure. I had a 2000 gas Ford and it was a nightmare to start. A friend who worked about 35 years with the local Ford tractor shop said that this model had an updraft carb (it did) and he never saw one that didn't cause problems. I sold it and bought a new MF diesel. When it sees me coming it starts by itself. Good luck on yours.
