Pulling Small Stumps

Fairly successful in wrestling small stumps up with my subsoiler, but it sometimes tends to slide off to one side or the other and I have to reposition and try again. May try to fashion some kind of a dual prong device, maybe in an inverted "V" shape, that would catch both sides of the stump. These are, at most, 3" diameter pine stumps in loose woods/forest soil that are easy to pull. Box blade would probably work but don't always have room for it where I'm working. Anybody got any other tricks that would make this easier?
