Always a hard lesson. Human nature says you would like to trust people especially your friends. My experiences have proven that most purchases through friends have almost always turn out to have some difficulty in getting the paperwork straightened out. I bought a van from a friend that I work with and waited almost a year for a clear title. On the other hand, last year I purchased a motor home through a private seller in the want-ads and when I questioned him about a clear title without liens he responded by signing over the title to me and letting me register it before I even paid for it! The next day I showed up at his place with plates in hand and gave him cash so he wouldn't have to worry about a bad check. That was the fastest and easiest transfer I ever had.
