I am not familiar with the 5550,however the only way i know of to change the timing would be for it to be an overhead cam engine.if it were not then just taking off the head would not effect the timing.also i dont want to disagree with trucker,but if it were 180 degrees out of time then the only problem that would cause would be the injection pump out of time.I am thinking you are 90 degrees out of time,as the exhaust valves seem to be opening when the intake valves should be.is there a gear that has two timing marks,or does the cam gear have two marks and engages the fuel pump.if so you should turn the marks 180 derees.trying another way!! disengage the cam gear from the crank gear,move the crank to top dead center.turn the cam until the number 4 valves are in the rocking position,that is where if you turn the cam either direction the intake or the exhuast valve will open.,engage the cam gear to the crank gear,you now are in time,cam to crank.it will be necessary to time the fuel pump.
