But you've just got a loader or a pushblade right? What makes a modern dozer so good for this work is the variable tilt blade (they're also a MESS of fun) with which you can tilt and a multitude of directions. In a pinch a 3pt back blade will work as good. On a normal farm tractor with a push blade you're right, you'd NEVER get it that good. But an acre isn't very big, with a 3pt rear blade and maybe a york rake you could do a decent job. Oh, them rocks he pushed down, they'll be back. Unless you're somewhere it doesn't freeze they'll slowly heave back up. You'll wish you had picked them in the first place.... Here in New England everyplace grows a good crop of rocks every year. Theres nothing quite like the "What the?" When the mower blades scalp a new rock...
