You are describing any generic pto of any kind. Perhaps my long description a couple messages below in this thread would help? A very few tractors drove the pto from the rear of the tranny. This affected the pto speed. Fewer still allowed you to choose the pto speed - from either behind the tranny (ground speed option) or in front of the tranny (regular pto speed). To have a live pto, it must have it's own clutch. To be live, you need to be able to stop the tractor's movement/ shift without stopping the pto. Nearly all tractors had the pto drive come from in front of the tranny (right after the clutch); but with only one clutch, it's still not live. If you have to stop the pto to shift gears, that is _not_ a live pto. Technically there is also an independent pto, which always operates totally seperate from any tranny/clutch position. We just kinda interchange those terms. But, the Ford dual-stage clutch I talk about in the other message can be called a live pto, but it is not an independent clutch.... The IHC 300 & Oliver Super 77 is independent, or live.... Confusing, isn't it? :) --->Paul
