Sounds like they left the generator on it. Might have converted the generator to 12 v, but might not, if just did it to sell it...in other words stuck a charged battery in it just before you got there? Or it could be bad battery that won't hold a charge. Using same starter is ok. Resistor on coil is probably to make 6 v coil work with 12 v, so that may be ok. What does amp meter say? What is voltage at battery while running versus while not running? Should be about 14.4 volts running if I remember correctly. Is it negative ground? Do the lights work? The Ferguson board probably can help further. Let us know what you find out.
