Don,
When hydraulic oil gets excessively hot there is a high pressure internal leak. Some Masseys have a constant pumping position on the 3-point lever or draft. Make sure this is not pumping when it is not working if so it is pumping the oil under pressure over the relief valve and this will cause it to get hot. Forget the water and get a thermomether.
