Well, the two "buyer's guides" that I have, for John Deere and IHC both basically discribe the basic models, and "rank" the separate and distinct variations by both how many were made, how old is it, and how popular was it? It gave extra "stars" for rare fuel type, chassis configuration, and currant popularity. Since collecting antique tractors is a poor substitute for investing in the stock market, these "guides" are mostly useful in helping determine relative value betweentwo tractors of the same make but of different configuration, Example: A JD 70 row crop gas tractor vs a JD 70 high crop diesel tractor. (** vs *****!.) The guide is worthless in helping compare a SMDTA and a 70D std for example.
