Hi BlueLite, My 5 ft AC sickle mower indicates that those hold down fingers, called knife clips, should have a slight clearance with the knife sections..."thickness of a post card" is called for. You adjust by bending the clips as required. I would assume this to be a pretty universal thing. My mower is vintage 1942. I don't think any hardfacing is called for. I lube my bar and knife sections with motor oil every so often as the manual calls for. Other people don't bother to do that I understand. Rod
