sounds like a rust or grime build-up on the t/o brg shaft. on those japanese compact diesels there is usually a oblong shaped rubber boot on the right or left side of the clutch bell housing or even on both sides. take the one or both off and try spraying wd-40 or aerokroil on the clutch shaft use a flashlight and try not to spray the chemical on the clutch disk as this may cause clutch material to unbond itself from the disk.
