Cub cadet has actually been owned by MTD since sometime in the 80's I believe, but they just started putting the "by MTD" on the cadets a couple years ago. As far as quality is concerned, some things have gotten cheaper/improved whatever you want to call, the same as cars have. Still, they are MTD's top of the line by a long shot, and one of the best mowers for the buck.
