The two strokes I know are still produced for marine applications. They don't produce quite the torque that a modern four stroker does but the horsepower is phenomonal. Two strokers do extremely well at constant throttle but lack the acceleration due to a narrow power band. I know they have been out of OTR trucks for quite a while because they aren't very fuel efficient and the emissions aren't controllable. A trucker once told me that his 8-71 couldn't "hang" with them on steep inclines but on flat road there was nothing that could touch it. I'd love to see one on a tractor, still looking for Mr. Forbush to show up somewhere with some great pictures.
