I agree with Tim but would add that the reason it stops pinging (if it was) is because the Higher octane fuel burns slower than the regular . If it wasn't pinging on the regular gas then you could probably advance the timing a little and get even more power. You can also get the same results cheaper by adding 25% diesel(by volume) to the reg. gas- works good in warm weather but can create hard starting in cool weather.
