Randy, a friend of mine has a Massey 2135, which is a little bigger than a 300U. He was having traction problems also, and built what he calls his BHT, or big heavy thing. It's pretty much what you describe, but half a drum, and he tossed a bunch of scrap iron in the bottom before he put in the concrete. He figures it weighs about 800 lb, and it solved his traction problems.
