In NY you have to file an appication with your town assessor along with proof of $10,000 yr gross income from farming, have at least 10 acres involved in the operation to qualify then get your county Soil and Water Conservation District to do a classification by soil types of your land. the land is then given an assessment based on its value as farmland for crop production.BT DT. There are a lot of strings attached if you sell any of it off etc etc. Your best bet is to find out exactly what is involved in YOUR locality from your assessor and then decide if you qualify and if the program will help you.As far as trying to gross that amount of money, if you are in a good area for a a road side market, you could try some fresh market vegetables, or else if you want to invest in the facilities(which may raise your taxes more than you could save)the only other enterprise that will gross that kind of money on 10 acres would be boarding horses. Good luck.
