These are all good ideas and I hope it is that simple. In any event, take the cover off and just do a common sense look see. On my C, the oil slinging gear for the PTO had broken a tooth and it had jambed like the others have suggested other parts might.

Also, my transmission oil was so thick it wouldn't drain (factory fresh I bet) and I heated kerosene OUTSIDE on a coleman stove and poured it through the transmission case, reheated it and poured it through again. It took a while but when I was done, the gears looked brand new and the case walls still had original red paint on them. That was cool enough the almost make it worth doing anyway.
