Just 'cause the goverment bought them does'nt make them reliable! They also bought the VTOL planes that keep crashing. That aside, I was a mech. in the army guard and we had a lot of those chevys. As I recall they ran at a high rpm at highway speeds and were fairly noisy. As far as reliability I think they were average but I think they were hard starting in cold weather. The older Ford/Int'l without the turbos were dogs, the newer powerstrokes are much better. My favorite is still Cummins but if you look around you may find something in a chevy that will work for you. I don't know if you can find a surplus chevy anywhere but they were rated at 5/4 tons capy. in the CUCV series. Good luck
