Joe, I've read the other responses and can only tell my experience. I have a 6.5 in a 1993 dually which has done alright by me. I bought it with 190K miles over 3 years ago and put on 35K so far. Had the glow plugs and controller replaced soon after purchase. Fuel filter caused a problem that I thought was injector pump but I have a reliable mechanic that changed the filter first and didn't rip me off. My only problem is the transmission doesn't like to stay in OD, so I ride with my hand on the shifter to hold it in. Like you, I'd drive a new one if they weren't so pricey.
