In most cases changing is a good thing. On some sites the password is locally saved to your computer, on others it is saved on their server, but recognizes your computer MAC number as authorization to use it. A friend (who makes a good salary as a IT security/professional far a Large financial institution) has told me it is less about the quirky letters and special characters, and more about length. Using a series of 3 four or 5 letter words with hyphens between Like Fence-staple-hole-tweaser5 thousands of times harder to crack, than an 8 digit with @#fan3)P7.
