Put your tires in a time machine to keep them from aging. Age is your biggest enemy. This tire was 11 years old You are lucky to get more than a 6 year warranty on car tires.
I have no proof, just my opinion. Putting ballast in a tire causes the sidewalls to flex more than without ballast. The flexing will cause the sidewalls to crack. Again, no proof, just my opinion.
